1. Mihi whakatau

  • Brief mihi i te reo Māori, then translate
  • Introduce the organisation and crew
  • Brief kōrero about the return of Mauao - Mauao Trust

2. Briefing

  • Ensure guests are aware of no toilets on Mauao
  • Make them aware of our harsh sun, even when cloudy, and invite to apply sunscreen
  • Invite them to the water and snacks
  • Ask for any medical concerns or injuries, how to manage them, and how we'll manage them

* NOTE: Guests may not be suitably fit for the tour.  Use your judgement to modify their experience, or deny their participation if necessary

  • Invite them to leave belongings behind if they want
  • Inform of track etiquette - keep to the left, keep path clear during stops, the track is undulating and gravel
  • Give a breakdown of the hīkoi, and inform of the kai and workshop after

3. Prep

  • Direct them to toilets
  • Help with putting belongings in pod
  • Assist with getting water, snacks and sunscreen
